How starter engines work

Engines need to suck air into cylinders by being turned at speed. Using a gear wheel or pinion connected to a flywheel with a large gear ring the motor will spin beginning this process. This process is started by turning the ignition key

This entire process has to occur without the draining of the battery and simulteanously avoiding sparks which could be hazardous to the user. For that reason a solenoid is used.

Starter motors are then broken up into different parts including coils, armatures, shift forks, brushes, commutators, solenoids, lever forks, drive gears & pinions. They are an essential part of your tractors running process and should be frequently checked to ensure they are working at full capacity.

Starter motors are usually located on the bottom side of engines. Nonetheless, newer tractors may have them beneath the intake manifold. Once the starters are activated, the shafts causing gear into winding their way to to engage the flywheels.
